The Triad - Vík, Iceland

Topaz Labs is having a sale right now, you can get their entire bundle for 100$ dollars off the list price. I really like their stuff, and find it to add a much needed flair to some of the shots posted on this website. I used a few of the presets and blended them in on the shot below. You can click through HERE, and use the coupon code july4 when checking out to get the discount:)

I spent my afternoon doing some odds & ends as well as planning an upcoming China trip for the fall. Beijing, Hong Kong and Guilin look like awesome places to explore & snap some pictures along the way.

The Shot
Just getting back from Iceland last week, it seems like a good time to bust out pictures from my previous trip. Here is one from the quaint town of Vik which lies on the Southern Coast of the island.

Rise - Crater Lake, Oregon

Just a heads up! onOne Software is having a 50% off sale for the next few days. Head on over to their website to buy! I love this stuff and use it to process most of my pictures, otherwise I really wouldn't promote it:)

It looks like summer has finally arrived in Seattle, knock on wood! After 3 weeks without touching Photoshop it's about time to dust it off and get things going again. Hopefully those creative juices are ready to pump out some awesome photos! I also have two updates for my workshops as follows, just click the title for full details.

The Shot
Last year around this time I ventured down to Crater Lake on a quick 4 day push through the Oregon Coast and on to the massive lake. This year will bring the same, but hopefully some better skies. It was clear and beautiful the entire time, but as a photographer, this is not always my wish:) The moon on the other hand was just awesome as it danced through the evening sky.

Wild Horses - West Fjords, Iceland

Returning from Iceland sparked me to look through all the old Icelandic pictures sitting on my hard drive. There are a bunch I have processed and not posted. At time it's hard to remember that there are so many un-posted pictures sitting on the computer. Now if there were only a tool that would post them on every social network at the same time annnnnd do a good job at it. Off to enjoy a lazy Sunday, with some reading, breakfast and maybe a beer or two.

The Shot
I spent a sunrise deep in the West Fjords in a field of horses, knee deep in mud and who knows what else. None the less these guys were really friendly and fun to hang out with.

Rollin' - Palouse, Washington

My new website is getting closer & closer to being completed which is really exciting. The only issue is that I nitpick way too much and stress my stuff out about non-sense for no reason. None the less, when it's done, the results are gonna be awesome! Well at least I think they will;)

I have not announced it on here yet, but there is a new Online Star Photography Post Processing Group Workshop opened up. In these workshops you will learn exactly how I process all my star shots from beginning to end. Just head over to that page and reserve a spot. 4 have sold already and there are 5 left.

The Shot
The D800 first landed in my hands a year and a half or so ago, a few days after that I snapped this shot in the Palouse Region of WA. The rolling hills and colors bring photographers from all around the world to this area in June and July.

Cannon Blast - Cannon Beach, Oregon

Does anyone else amass an insane amount of emails when they go away for a bit? Normally I can check these once in a while and cut down on the disaster waiting for me upon return, but when overseas without cell phone service all bets are off. None the less, I kinda like responding and sending emails, so this afternoon will be enjoyable, sorting through pictures and doing "online stuff". That being said, I am back from another amazing trip to Iceland, which may just become a yearly ritual for me:)

The Shot
During the summer my girlfriend Meghan and I often explore the Oregon Coast. This is easily one of our favorite places to lay around and spend the day having a few drinks. Usually I'll snap off some pictures here and there too.

Adventures in Ísafjörður - West Fjords, Iceland

After a weekend of star photography workshops, and little sleep it felt great to get a full 6 hours of shut eye. After clicking "publish" on this post it's time to pack for Iceland, where the 4 hour sunsets and sunrises keep me busy for days. As for my other workshops this summer, there is 1 spot left in each of my July Star sessions. Head on over to my Summer Star Photography Workshops page for full details.

The Shot
It's been around 350 days or so since I took this shot & since I am headed back to Ísafjörður tomorrow, why not post a shot? I really liked adventuring through this town in the early morning around 3 AM when no one was awake, it was a complete ghost town.

Remember the Night - Picture Lake, WA

Just got done packing all my camping gear, it's off to Mount Rainier for my first star photography workshop of the season. Anyone else gonna be up there this weekend? Maybe we will run into you. None the less, happy shooting...

The Shot
Mount Baker is another one of those locations where the nights are so dark you can barely see your own hand. If you wana capture some great star shots I highly recommend this location. I took this one at Picture Lake which always seems to be photogenic. There are some great hikes in the area as well if you aren't into this whole photography thing.

Tip the Scales - Yosemite, California

The clouds are clearing and it looks like I am all set for this weekends Star Photography Workshop at Mount Rainier. Hopefully the weather stays as nice as it is right now and makes for some great shots.

If you can't make the workshop I would highly recommend trying your hand at star photography this weekend. The moon sets around 11PM making for some really dark skies. Here is my Free Star Photography Tutorial if you decide to give it a shot.

The Shot
I am sure everyone has seen a shot from this iconic spot in Yosemite National Park. When I visited the main goal was to walk away with some shots that didn't resemble the same shots I see from many other photographers. So far so good, unless someone else snapped this one off in the recent future;)

The Hidden Grotto - Ruckel Creek, OR

Just walked in the door from an awesome trip to the East Coast. I was able to explore Philly and catch a great sunset or two as well as spend some time with my family, which is always really nice. This coming weekend is the start of my Star Photography Workshop season. The June workshops are completely sold out, but you can still grab a spot in the July 12th, or July 13th workshop, there are only 2 spots left so act quickly. Full details here on my Summer Star Photography Workshops Page.

The Shot
Mossy Grotto falls as some call it is an amazing fall a few miles up the Ruckel Creek Trailhead. It will take some exploring to find, but I consider the adventure to be well worth it. Many people like to leave early and catch this fall in the morning, I took this shot around 7:30PM and things still seemed to work out OK. Just make sure you have a headlamp if you climb up that way at night, because it gets dark pretty quickly in the dense forest...
