Of Brothers & Friends - Philadelphia, PA

And here we go again, it seems like these summer months have been flying by and the new moon is quickly approaching. I know I'll be headed out to take some Milky Way shots this weekend. Anyone else headed out?

Just a reminder, you can win a free spot to one of my In the Field Star Photography Workshops, by participating in the Free Star Photography Workshop Give Away Contest! DO IT!

PS: If you haven't checked out the new Smugmug yet or are looking for a great place to hold your portfolio, head on over that way. I am currently deciding if I will stay with the current setup or switch it up with a new design. Whatever they put in their coding over there is absolutely awesome. I usually pull in 1.5-2.5+ Million picture views a month on their site. Trust me, it's good stuff!

The Shot
I go to visit my brother in Philly every now and then. Usually we end up doing so much fun stuff that photography is on the back burner. This past trip it was possible to go take pictures for an hour or two during sunset. This is a pano made from two single RAW files and stitched in Photoshop.

Lost: In the Valley of Dreams - Mount Rainier, Washington

Does anyone ever wake up and hope for clouds & rainy skies? Seattle has been so sunny lately, waking up to some dim & gloomy skies this morning was definitely welcomed. One of my buddies Paul Rutherford is in town for the weekend and we ventured up to the top of the Space Needle for sunset. The colors were great & the city lights up nicely a bit after sunset. Highly suggest a trip to the top if you are in the area.

PS: One spot just opened up in my Online Star Photography Post Processing Group Workshop if anyone wants it.

The Shot
A few weeks ago a group of 9 students and myself were out taking pictures at Mount Rainier. The night was absolutely perfect for Milky Way shots, we even got some air glow here and there. It's a blast taking a bunch of awesome photographers out to capture the night sky, especially on a clear night like this. Thanks to everyone that came out to the In the Field Workshop!

As It Fades - Palouse, Washington

Any of you Seattleites ever been to the Triple Door in downtown Seattle? The entire month of October they will be displaying 20+ of my prints around their venue. If you have been waiting to get a large print, this would be a great time to buy. More info to come on exact dates and all that good stuff!

A few quick links with new stuff & headsups... some call this news.

More updates to my Free Star Photography Tutorial just came out today, there are some really good NEW tips in there.

3 Spots left for the entire summer in my In the Field Star Photography Workshops.

And for your troubles.... here's a picture.

The Shot
I can't believe it's been a year + since I took this picture. Some pictures sit on the computer a while before getting processed such as this one, others fly right out the door. At any rate, I snapped this from the top of Steptoe Butte in Palouse Washington. This one was taken at f/16, ISO 100 and 0.2" seconds. Strange how I would never use those settings these days for a regular old landscape shot, more like f/8, live and learn...

First off we have the Star Photography Workshop Give Away Contest in which you can win a free spot to one of my workshops. I'm also wondering if anyone got some good moon pictures last night? I would be interested to see!

The Shot
Mount St. Helens is a trip that I have been wanting to make for a while now. Well it finally happened and the conditions could not have been better. A great sunset, followed by an even more amazing Milky Way, and some colorful green air glow, it's hard to beat that.

The Shot
A couple of months back my friend Paul and I were hitting the road every weekend destined for new locations and places to shoot. Paul has some nice pics on his site as well. One of the spots we hit was Ecola State Park near Cannon Beach Oregon. Arriving just before sunrise always gives some great lighting and mood for amazing pictures...

And the Wind Spoke - West Fjords, Iceland

I met up with Jimmy Mcintyre and his wife Rachel last night to snap some pics & have some drinks. Eventually we got side tracked from the whole photography thing and ended up at a few bars. All around good times! I highly suggest checking out both of their blogs linked above, very inspirational.

Keep in mind the Star Photography Workshop Give Away Contest is still up and running. You have another month to submit your best night shots for a chance to win free admission.

The Shot
One of the best parts about looking through pictures from trips of past is the sparking of memories that lead into more thoughts and often inspiration for new adventures. Here is one from the a night in Iceland that featured some of the best color I have ever seen. My girlfriend Meghan and I drove through the landscapes jaw-dropped for hours.

A Passing Glimpse - Mount St. Helens, Washington

Thanks to everyone who attended and helped to sell out each of my star photography workshops this past weekend. The weather was about as good as it can get & we were able to capture some amazing Milky Way shots. You will probably see them floating around the web in the coming weeks. From the looks of things, everyone is starting to try out star photography, I have seen some pretty cool shots on different social networks. Time to step my game up....

PS: If you still want to attend one of my summer star workshops the time to sign up is now, I believe there are 3 or 4 spots left for the entire summer. Another option is signing up to win a spot for free. See below.

The Shot
Well this is strange, two flower shots in a row? That doubles the count for the entire time I have been taking pictures... so if you enjoy them, well suck it all up, these are the last ones left on the computer. This was taken at Mount St. Helens in Washington State for all you map addicts out there. Enjoy!

Star Photography Workshop Free Give Away Contest

This coming weekend is a new moon, and great for star photography so I decided to open a contest giving away one free admission to my September 6th Star Photography Workshop at Mount Rainier National Park. The winning photo/photographer will also be shared on my Facebook and Google+ pages. Please follow all rules and guidelines listed below to enter.

The Shot
Every year I see so many "flower shots" from Rowena Crest Park in Oregon, so I had to venture up there and see what all the fuss was about. Prior to going I promised myself not to take any sun star or sunrise flower shots that constantly swamp the internet. I hope you enjoy something a little different from this well known location, if you don't to bad:( If you want to learn how I processed it head on over to my Star Photography Post Processing Group Workshop page and I would be happy to teach you!

"Pro Photographers" - Yosemite Valley, CA

For the first time yesterday I was able to explore Mount St. Helens and damn is it awesome. We stayed up there for sunrise and sunset as well as the best Milky Way I have seen so far. There will be some pictures surfacing in the coming weeks from the shoot. One is currently sitting in Photoshop ready for a full edit sesh...

For anyone else that will be out taking star pics in the coming weeks, feel free to sit in on one of my Online Star Photography Post Processing Group Workshops where I'll teach you my entire star photography workflow. You even get a picture to process along with me:)

The Shot
When I was setting up for this shot in Yosemite a few months back a group of photographers came over to me and said. Hey were "Pro Photographers" can you move, we need to run our workshop here! What is a pro photographer I asked? Grumbles. The guy didn't even accept a beer when I offered, so I kept shooting...

We Told You What to Dream - Reykjavic, Iceland

Well it's that time of month again, the moon is setting as the Milky Way rises and I'm headed out to shoot some stars. It's always a struggle deciding where to shoot, with so many places, heading one way always makes you feel like your missing out on the other....

The Shot
Touching down in any foreign land is always great, the world is in front of you and nothing stands in the way saying, "No". Something about that feeling has always intrigued me, Iceland was no different, what an awesome to place to spend a few weeks in the middle of nowhere.

Maui Wowi - Maui, Hawaii

Over the past 9 months I have given a few methods of uploading pictures a try. The first was uploading a picture every week, this got boring. The second was every single day, this was overwhelming, fun, but it lacked quality at times. The third I am working with now, upload a picture whenever I feel like it... ENJOYABLE! Which do you prefer for your own style of photography?

July Star Photography Workshops are now completely sold out. Only 4 spots remain for the entire summer and they are in September. If you would like to grab one the Star Photography Workshops Page is the place to do so!

The Shot
There are a million photos from Maui on the computer that I have not yet even seen. Knowing there are some awesome moments on there can be really fun, down the road I look forward to processing the really REALLY good ones. Here is a fun fisheye shot from a beach where we had way to many drinks... and  even more after that.
