Last Dawn - Brooklyn, New York

Those long weekends always roll by way to fast, don't they? I did get the chance to visit the infamous Mossy Grotto Falls this weekend. Everyone complains about the tough hike, but it kinda reminded me of being a kid again and rolling around in the mud, not all that bad:) On another note, has anyone gotten the invite for the updated Google Maps yet? It is down right awesome, but I am a maps addict, so there may be some bias there.

The Shot

Let's go back to the Big Apple for a bit with a sunrise from the Brooklyn Bridge. Something about those huge cables holding the thing together really helps to make any picture pop. Thankfully I had some help in the composition department, my brain was fried from walking around the city since 2 AM.

The Second Coming - Manhattan, New York

And..... I'm back in action after a much needed break. After relaxing for a few days I realized how much stuff I actually wanted to get done.  Some of this energy was used on post processing, but most was used on the new website which is coming along really nicely. I did sell two more spots to my Star Photography Workshops, which leaves a total of 4 remaining for the entire summer. If you have been thinking about it now would be the time to buy.

The Shot

This morning is still vivid in my mind. After catching a train from Philly and arriving in the Big Apple around 2AM on a Tuesday morning I walked the streets taking pictures until sunrise. After a beautiful sunrise on the bridge I snapped off this shot walking back to my hotel. In terms of processing I have a few new tricks up my sleeve, hopefully they reflect in this shot...

New Dawn - Manhattan, New York

I put in another 8 hours of web design today, things are starting to come along a little bit for such a steep learning curve. Even though it's a huge paint I am actually enjoying all the stuff that goes along with the project.

Not All That Wander Are Lost - Central Park, NYC

Just got back from a weekend on the Oregon Coast where the weather didn't play along quite as well as last weekend. We did catch a really awesome moon rise over the water and found an amazing camping spot on the ocean which made up for the lack of nice light.

The Shot

This classic view from Central Park in New York City was taken early one morning on my last day in the city. You really can't beat grabbing a coffee and bagel from a street stand and wandering the paths of the park before the sun comes up.

City Shakedown - Manhattan NYC

I am completely in love with photography, but sometimes different aspects of it need to be removed of my life for short periods of time. Let's take for example the computer, there are certain weeks where I just don't want to be around it. On the other hand at no time would I ever turn down hiking, exploring or road tripping with my camera. Tough times...;)

OK now on to the other topics of tonights discussion. Workshops, I am holding a bunch of them summer to teach all the aspects of my star photography knowledge. Upon arriving at Penn Station at 2AM after a long night at the bar in Philadelphia PA there was no other choice except exploring the city until sunrise. Personally I think Manhattan is a great place to wander around at night. There is rarely any crime & a bunch of cool locations to shoot. Before I knew it the sun was rising and I found myself running through the streets to watch it peak over the horizon from the Brooklyn Bridge...

Big Dreams - Manhattan, NYC

Today I purchased my airfare for  a 10 day adventure in China, starting in middle October. There are no firm plans yet but Beijing, Hong Kong and Guilin are all on the list... maybe there are a few more spots that I can sneak in along the way.... Any suggestions?

The Shot

Another capture from NYC looking over the river towards downtown Manhattan. A few hours before snapping this shot I caught one of the most amazing sunrises from the Brooklyn Bridge. After it was over, there wasn't a reason to stop wandering for another hour or so and grab a coffee along the way as the light began to fade. After a bit exploring I ended up on the other side of the river and found a great view of the city in the morning light. For me spending mornings this exact same way in different cities around the world never seems to get old...

All my shots from NYC run together to the point that I have no idea when this was taken, just that what you see in front of you is Chinatown NYC. I also remember squeezing my 14-24mm lens through a very small crack to get the view seen here. None the less it's a very cool place to wander, explore and get some amazing food so check it out for yourself:)

Morning Coffee - Times Square, NYC

I am in the middle of taking some online training courses from Chip Philips and Trey Ratcliff, both seem to contain a ton off good info. I'll give a better review once I am done with the videos. No matter how much I learn about photography and Photoshop I always pick up new stuff when watching these lessons from great photographers.

The Shot

Times Square is a place you can visit at any time of day or not, the lights are always on and people are wandering around. This shot was taken after I grabbed some coffee to charge up for a morning of shooting.

Journey to the End - New York City, NY

My online post processing workshop for this Sunday is completely full. I am going to hold one a month just incase you missed this one. There are also some other projects in the plans for anyone that wants to learn about photography.

The Shot

While in NYC I attempted to walk everywhere I went for the entire week without taking a cab. This was a great way to find awesome spots to shoot you don't normally see. Obviously this picture is not a good example. Who knows where this was taken?

The Gift - New York City, NY

Today I found another company stealing my photography. It is a huge pain in the ass when I share these images so freely for non-commercial purposes only asking for my name and website to be shared with the photo and this simple task is to hard to complete. The company that illegally used my photos is www.sanfrancisco.travel I would highly recommend not using their site or doing any sort of business with them.

The Shot

I took this early one morning as the light crept into a Manhattan Subway entrance. While my brackets were snapping off the nosy security guard came and gave the usually run around.

Well I made some plans for Christmas Break, looks like Maui Hawaii will be my home for 7 days of sun, shooting and drinking. Should be a great time. Does anyone have any suggestions for great spots to shoot on the island?

The Shot

NYC is filled with non-stop excitement for a photographer. After 3 days of going all out I was ready for a break. On my walk back to the hotel I saw this cool little cathedral. I had to stop and snap off a few more....

Dear New York

Photomatix was not used to process this shot believe it or not. It was done using my new Cross Process  presets then manually blended together in Photoshop… Gotta try different styles to keep it fresh. Keep an eye out for my new presets scheduled to hit shelves in the next few weeks.

I spent 2 weeks on the East Coast this past month, traveling through Philly, Maryland and then the Big Apple. Along the way I was able to catch 2 electronic music festivals and snap off 3000 or so pictures… Here is the first I have published from the Top of the Rock in NYC. I have also included some of the music I listened to while processing this shot…. Dear New York
